I decided to go fishing tonight with my little brother (he may be 30, but he's still my "little" brother). We got to the lake and we could see a storm to the south, but it was heading east and away from us so we thought it wouldn't be a problem. We shoved off and I think we got a whole 10 minutes of fishing in when we saw a very dark, not so friendly looking cloud coming straight for us and it seemed to be doubling in size every minute. We flew back to the landing at full throttle and barely made it back as the front rolled overhead.....then we saw funnels. First a few, then more. I had my cell phone with and started snapping pictures as it went east. If I can figure out how to get the pictures off the phone (I'm a dunce when it comes to electronics) I could show you some time lapsed photos of what appears to be a tornado touching down. As soon as I got back in the truck and turned on the radio to hear my beloved MN Twins were getting spanked by Cleveland 12-1, an emergency radio broadcast came on to say that the radar had just indicated a tornado in southeast Clearwater county, 8 mileswest of Lake Itasca. It just so happens that I was in southeast Clearwater county and about 12 miles west of Lake Itasca at the time and I'm pretty sure that the photos I have are definitely what they were talking about. That was a close call...... Edited by: whino-wino

Man, that was a close call!

Glad you are all right.

O.K. I can't figure out how to download the stupid photos off the camera, so what I did was take a picture of the picture using my digital camera. I apologize that the pictures are crappy, but you can still see what I'm talking about. These four pics were taken in about a 1 minute time span. The last pic was when we were pretty sure something was happening as it doubled in size and got real dark in about 5 seconds.

I was watching the radar and there was little tornadoes popping up all over to the South and East...not far away....Looked like they were going near where they touched down last week.

Glad you made it to shore safely....Pretty vulnerable when you are out on the water holding up a graphite rod into the skies....your just a little lightening rod.

We just got strong winds and a downpour....good rainbows tho.

Take care and watch the skies.

O.K. This should be a little better:

Funnels dipping up and down from front (which has already passed overhead and is moving away from me)

Couple of them joined up and formed bigger funnels:

Getting bigger:

Now something we Vikings fans haven't seen much of the past few years....a touchdown:

It was down for maybe 15 seconds and then started to suck back into the clouds:

And just dissapeared:

All this lasted but maybe two minutes. Sorry the majority of the pics are small, but the only one I didn't have the zoom on was the first.

That looks like some ugly weather rolling in there. We just got the usual wind and rain. We were out in the garage last nite working on the son's car when he said to come and look outside. Took a few pictures of this double rainbow.
