Just learned of these. Kind of pricey, and at 1" diameter, they are probably a bit of a pain to get out of a carboy. But I like the extraction times.

I bought a pound of the French oak last month from Morewine. Will try them out this Winter in one of my Vadai barrels once they finish MLF. When it comes to oak flavor the larger the piece the better quality you get flavor wise so these should be a higher quality oak than what any bean could ever produce.
 
Are usually use starves... Interesting change. Just too bad it only comes in plus and not regular toast
