Hello folks,

New wine maker here in the great taxed state of CT! :-0

Recently made 2 batches of wine: 1) California Connoisuer Chardonnay, 2) Cheeky Monkey Malbec.

Both came out pretty good. The Malbec tasted really nice. The Chardonnay was OK...didn't have alot of body but OK for a cheap everyday wine.

HOWEVER....assembled some racks in my attic (my 14yr old wanted to surprise me so assembled them up there) and we put our Malbec and Chard on the racks. BUT...it's been HOT. Forgot about the darn bottles (work, kids, life, etc.) and realized it's been 82 degrees up there!!!!

if the wine has been in 82 degrees for the past month or so will that really mess up the wine????

Thanks,
Z-

While not optimal, I think you'll be fine. Wine going to liquor stores is often in carried in unrefridgerated trucks that sit and bake in the heat during the summer months. 82 is actually rather cool for an attic this time of year, mine is probably in the 100's.... of course I don't store my wine there either lol

I think you will be fine but I would get them out of their asap. You also risk blowing corks. It is more important to try and keep your wine at a relatively stable temperature then at 55* or 75*.

I would immediately move it to the basement and not plan on aging it for a long time. Enjoy it now and learn from your mistake for the next batch.

Try to store the wine at or preferably below room temperature.

If the wine stays that hot for a prolonged period of time, it will be lifeless and loose all its fruitiness.

Runningwolf....yup, had a few corks start working their way out of the bottles. Was able to push them back in.

Joea132....thanks.

I've moved them all down into an extra refrigerator we have in the basement and I raised the temp down so it wasn't SO cold. Buying a thermometer tomorrow so I can get the refrigerator down to about 55 degrees.
