Was anybody or relatives on anybody affected by this? I saw some video footage of this - and it appears that more than half the town was wiped out by this tornado.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families.

boy I bet they thought it was the end of their world when that came through.

I have family that lives in that area. None of them were in Joplin, luckily. I would not doubt if they know people that did die in that terrible tornado.

What a terrible tragedy! Thoughts and prayers certainly go out to all who were affected.

Thanks Jon for posting this up.

I don't have relatives there, but I have been to Joplin many times. Hard to believe.

I was born about 50 miles from Joplin and I have 7 aunts/uncles and a whole lot of cousins that live out that way, so I am very familiar with the area.

Got word that all of my family are ok. Phew. None actually live in Joplin, but not far for sure and could have been there when it struck. My cousin was there all day trying to help in any way he could.

Glad to hear your family is safe. I just read they upgraded the tornado to an F5!! 124 killed and still 1500 people missing!

What a tragedy..

This has to be the deadliest Spring on record. Its just insane what's happening week after week. Even this AM our low was 40. The air is unbelievably cold for this time of year even for here. This mass of air will no doubt continue on to the East over the next day or so causing even more tornado activity as the cold air runs smack dab into the warm moist air. Not good.

The force of nature never ceases to amaze me. Strangely enough I went to grade school with a girl, who's mother I later trained on the ambulance that lives in Joplin. Thankfully she's ok.
