Just finished "Judgment of Paris" yesterday. Written by George Tabor, wow, the book really puts the lie to "Bottle Shock." The first half, especially, is an excellent read. If you read it with your winemaker's hat on, you might even pick up some things you might try in your own endeavors.

The latter half drags somewhat, but the book overall is worth the time. It even thoughtfully includes an index at the end so you can go back and look up specific items.

I got my copy through used book resale clearinghouse Abebooks for $3.45 with shipping included. When it arrived, it was new.

BTW, in many of the wine books I have been reading, Maynard Amerine's name keeps coming up. He was the UC-Davis professor who was so seminally involved with grape and wine research. Well, many of his '70s-vintage textbooks are available used. Books that were $70-$125 new can be bought for $3-$7 used. Just saying, in case anyone wants to pick up some book-learnin'. I've ordered just about every title available used for my library.

Yes, a very good book and Bottle Shock is still a good movie, even though the writers exercised a lot of
"freedom of expression". :dg

I really enjoyed the second half of the book. Lots of great wine-related facts and history concerning the incredible results of that competition in Paris. That competition did change the wine producing/wine making world.

I defiantly plan on reading that one as soon as I'm done with Billionaire's Vinegar.

Thanks

Thanks for the tip Jim. I have been lurking on your Gallo thread as well and am very interested in reading up on many of the titles discussed there as well.

We have been in family crisis mode lately with my mother in law in and out of the hospital and have barely had enough time to keep up with my wine making much less reading. But hopefully that is tailing off now. She is back home and doing well. I'll be checking that site out soon for sure. Thanks.

I hope it all works out for your mother in law.

Wow, shocker.

Next thing you know we will all find out the we spy on our enemies...
