Hi Everybody:

Has any one tried using a juicer to extract grape juice? I know that you want to keep the seeds intact, as they impart bad flavors, but I was wondering if a Jack Lalane Juicer would do the trick. I don't want to wreck $100.00 worth of good grapes to find out. Has any one heard anthing like that?

I doubt you could use a mechanical juicer on grapes without grinding up the seeds....sounds like you need to borrow or rent a press.

I use an Omega Juicer every day and it will definitely grind up the skins, flesh and seeds. So if you are worried about the seeds imparting a bad flavor, I would not use it. When I make my juice drinks, with the exception of citrus fruit, pits and apple cores, I grind it all, including the rind. I don't taste off flavors, but that's probably because the sugar masks the bitter flavor of the rind. I see your location is Albania. I'm guessingthat may be inaccurate. However, if you can't rent or borrow a a grape crusher/destemmer and wine press from a local homebrew supply store or friend, you can either destem by hand or create a destemmer by using a piece of flat plywood with a series of nails driven intoit, pulling the plywood acrossthe grapes to remove the stems. You can then crush with your sanitized feet or use a potato masher. If you can't find a wine press to borrow, you can put the crushed grapes into a nylon bag and do your best to hand squeeze them. The latter method is no fun, so I hope you can get a crusher/destemmer and winepress. Edited by: dfwwino

Destemming by hand is a chore as I can attest to as I recently did a bushel. I too had no press so I put mine in a large, sanitized trash can, sanitized a 2 x10 board and used that to process the grapes. Worked pretty well but took a while.

Hi Everybody: Thanks for the input. The more I read, it seems like hand crushing is the way to go. I was just looking for shortcuts.

I'm not really from Albania, I don't know how that slipped in, but it has been corrected.
