I started wine making in November - an early Christmas present, and I love it.
Currently, I am finishing up a WE Oregon Pinot Noir that I would like to bulk age for a year. I plan on storing it in a bedroom closet.

How can I keep it cool during a hot Texas summer?

Ideally you would like a cooler temp, but even as important from whatI have read is a steady temp. If you keep your house AC at about a steady temp then try to find the closet that stays steady all day and night. Try to keep the wine away from an outside wall or drafty area where the temps could fluctuate.

Here in KY we get some hot humid summers and if my brew closet doesn't stay steady then I have a square cooler that I have used for lagering beer. Filled about half way up the carboy with water and a homemade lid from insulation board. In that I then place frozen cooler blocks. 2-3 blocks kept the temp around 52 degrees and 1 block kept it just below 70 degrees. I had to change the blocks about twice a day, which was not a hassle sinceI was checking my brew closet at least that many times a day anyway.

I feel your pain. I live in Louisiana and it can be tough. What I have to do is bite the bullet in defense of my wines and run the AC. It don't bother the wife though. She is a hot blooded Italian who likes the AC at 60 while I like hot weather and am comfortable in the house until it reaches about 76 inside. We keep the house about 66-68 year round.
