Eveyone have a great day and don't work TOO HARD!

I know over the years Labor Day has always meant I had to work twice as hard, especially while I had a large produce stand. It was one of the busiest days of the year and I always gave the help the day off unless they volunteered to work. That meant I had to do things mostly alone. Cindy is off to work and my son Joe is going at noon until 9:00. I am working on house plans until noon and then I am going out to work on the winery. Actually I am just clearing out the storage room in the old barn that will become a winery.

Have a great day everyone. I have the day off paid so my wife applied for O.T. today and was granted it. Im home with the kids and doing vehicle maintenance and a few loads of laundry to get caught back up. Maybe Ill even sneak in a little wine work since I do have a few batches that can be bottled and 1 that needs back sweetening and another thats ready to be racked off sediment. Wine comes last though!

Bert is laboring away juicing fruits with the steam juicer in the garage. He's got the camp stove set up out there! I slept in this morning and have accomplished NOTHING all the while I've been up! It's a holiday!

Here's Bert's set up in the screen porch. He's juicing crab apples right now. It's a warm and humid day today, so the screen porch is the place to do this kind of thing!

Was just going to ask what he was juicing.....

It's just too dang hot for me to think about doing anything like that....Going to try juicing in a couple days when the cold front comes through....Got Sandcherries to do....

Going to make a pasta salad and the thought of boiling some water makes me wilt.

Yes they are crab apples Wade...
Have my work cut out for me today....Picked 15 LBs of chokecherries yesterday and 22LBs of red crab apples [kind unknowen] .... Will guess at 35 LBs of a yellow crab apple [they are a bit larger than the reds and about 35 LBs of apples [I was told they are Harriston]....Could have gotten more , but just got tired of picking.....Hope to get the apples juiced today...

Yummmm-O!!!!

Swill...those look great....be careful what you eat.

We went to a friends to eat and visit...the visiting was great [got our new steel sign]....but I ate too much...steak, salad, sweet corn...salsa...etc...I felt ill for awhile......Just too much of a good thing after eating only small portions for the last 3 months....Live and learn.

I'm not sure what looks better guys- the crabapples or the ribs. Oh Heck, who am I kidding. Those ribs are the clear winner. I haven't had a rib since '94 after having heart problems and really miss them!

I have to agree the ribs over the crab apples anytime...

I don't know about the crab apples but the ribs were great. I forgot to take a picture when they were done. May be next time.

PWP

What were you hanging off to get that picture. Looks like you were perched on the fireplace.

Labor day was a REAL labor day.
Spent the day putting up a new gate for the stable.

I'm getting into a pattern here. After our first child she wanted a second so that she wouldn't be lonely. After our first cat we got another one so they could play together. did you know horses get lonely too? Now we have two. So.....now i need to stable them. We have a three horse stable. One houses the yard tractor. The other two are 12 by 12. I extended them monday to 12 by 24. Took three gates a couple of 5/8" metal drill bits and a load of sweat.

After that I built a couple of flower boxes, one about 6 ' by 2' the other about 12' by 2'. Shoveled a yard of dirt into them and planted a bunch of confederate jasmine and azalea bushes.

Pictures to follow...

Maybe I could convince her that carboys get lonely

Peter, they do get lonely...I'm surprised you didn't know that...

Carboys are herd animals, like sheep. They are only happy in large crowds.
