I would NEVER attempt a wine from anything even remotely poisonous. There are too may other safe bases out there. And just because an animal eats a poisonous plant doesn't mean that its safe for human consumption- that's an old wife's tale and one of the primary rules for foraging (https://esajournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/fee.2443).
Old folks used to grow castor plants to discourage (kill?) gofers.
Of course, one could give it a try and your friends could offer a toast with a good Cab over one's casket!
