I have made muscat wine from California grapes for 30 years. The last 3 years the wine has lost all of its very distinctive flavor. The only info I have gotten on the cause is the growers have somehow altered the vines to change the flavor to more modern tastes. This seems inconceivable. Does anyone have any information on this? Thank you

Most produce is pretty tasteless today. One reason I've heard is they over fertilize to maximize yields. Bigger fruit but the flavors aren't as concentrated. Wine grapes shouldn't be picked for yield but for the flavor profiles based on sugar content, pH, acids, etc. Without knowing what 'altered their vines' is supposed to mean it's hard to say. Breed out the flavor for yield or maximizing yield on older vines?
