Hello I started my must on 6/16, then added yeast to it on 6/17 with a s.g. rating at 1.100. Today 6/18 I stirred it and took another s.g. reading and it was at 1.072. Does this mean the yeast is doing it's thing or is there something wrong.

thanks, ksvet06

Looks like you're right on target. It usually takes several days to covert the sugar to alcohol. Wait until you're at below 1.000 (i.e. 0.995) for two or three days straight, then move on.

Welcome to the forum!

Yo ksvet, hope by now you are getting near 1.000. It is always a bit worrisome as you try to figure out what is normal or not.

Best, Fran

hey francois_du_nord,

Your right it is worrisome lol. Monday when I racked the wine into the carboys the s.g. was at .993. I'm being impatient and want to open it all up and check it again.

thanks, zach
