This may seem like an odd question, but my research hasn't turned anything up. Have you ever tried using a neutral wine barrel for long term storage? I know there would be no oak flavor added, but one could add oak staves I am thinking. I'm looking at this idea figuring I can get a large storage vessel that can be reused. Thanks

You'll still get the benefits of concentration and micro-ox. I have 1 neutral barrel and it is still in service. I have no plans of taking it out of service any time soon.

This is what a local winery does. No new barrels, adds wood spirals for oaking. Wine wins awards.
