May I suggest that a new forum be added under "other topics"?

How about one for "home gardening".

I think that a lot of members here are of the type of folks that love to do things for themselves. I bet most have some form of garden, be it a farm or a 4" pot.

I was about to start a thread polling folks for tips on growing basil in pots. I then realized that gardening was something that most of us have brought up in threads at one time or another.

Anyone else think that this might be a good idea??

I think a topic like gardening may be a good idea. I am certainly interested in improving my own vegetable and fruit gardening skills, but the downside is that I only have so much time in the day and speaking only for myself I am not sure that I would open many posts on this forum that did not deal with wine making but I suspect that this may be a minority opinion...

I also like the idea, but my participation would depend a great deal on the discussion topics that appear.

I would find it interesting if folks posted what they are growing and a little about it. I don't garden much, just herbs. such a forum may give me some ideas.

I might be inclined to look in on it. As long as some of the pros didn't look down on my paltry adventures in gardening (or feeding the deer as my wife calls it) :)

I grow basil in a pot too. Sounds like an opening line to a 12 step program...

How about a "Wine Garden" Forum under the Grape Growing / Vineyard Management / Commercial Winery forum?

Well... I suppose, except ..

I am not commercial winemaker, and I was thinking of veggie gardens (not wine gardens) for most of us that do not have a vineyard.

I was thinking more like talking about deck gardening, etc..

This was only a suggestion. I know that this is supposed to be a winemaking site and this may be a little off topic, but I though that it might be a good idea.

This is a great idea.
When I am not sitting by the pool or making wine, I am growing all types of things.
Except grass!
I have the worst friggin lawn in my neighborhood!
:slp

BOATBOY24,,, That ought to discourage the deer and 'hogs, but are YOU gonna be pissed when the birds clean house!!:sh Unless of course that's your plan LOL

Why not take a survey to see what particular interests/hobbies besides wine making are popular to the membership? Who knows; might find out that that there is more interest in woodworking or whatever than there is in home gardening.

BTW, I, like I'm guessing many others, go to other forums/boards that are particular to my other interests.

Well, I see this as potentially relevant as if you grow green beans, and turn them into a wine, you in fact have a wine garden.

I didn't intend and commercial application of the term, this is just garden growing.

I have some fruit trees I plan on making wine from some day. If they ever get big enough. As of now we don't even get enough to eat.

3 Apple trees
2 plum trees
1 cherry tree

The wife and I always do a small pepper/tomato garden to make salsa

I would post in a new gardening section for sure.

For those of us in Colorado, 'gardening' can go in several directions and the species grown rather diversified. Could be interesting.

Roger I don't think we want to go in the direction of the alternative gardening from Colorado, altough I keep having home winemakers ask me if I make wine from the stuff you are referring to and have to tell them, no it isn't legal in my state, yet..............

I have had a vegetable garden for years, and am newer to the wine making, but found that carrots make a good wine....Adding a gardening forum would make a great "one-stop" chatting web page for me. :hug

I think all you guys wanting a gardening forum are PANSIES!!!! :)

Actually we do quiet extensive gardening at home. I think a page for wine gardens is a good idea. To have a separate (tab) page for gardening and woodworking I think is not he way to go on a wine forum unless if it is a simple one like the one on fishing or hunting. I feel the idea of a new (separate) forum for these ides is a great idea. It would also be nice to have a page or banner here with links to get to them. We have a great community and it would be nice to see familiar faces in another specific forum.

These are just my thoughts and am open to hear from everyone else.

That would be relevant under food. I also feel food and wine are forever linked, so it does have a place here.
