Hello everyone. Just to tell you a little about myself. I grew up just north of Seattle in Mill Creek, went to college at the University of Arizona in Tucson and then moved back in 2008. I have completely emersed myself in Washington Wine Culture with all the cool things we are doing up here.
I originally started brewing beer with the home kit my fiancee gave me before we were engaged. Since then I have given up beer and have completely switched over to Wine! I still like my beer, but nothing is better than wine. I took a stab at a Sauvignon Blanc from an RJ kit last year and it went horribly wrong. So I took a step back and havent made any since. However, I have had such a passion and itch for the process I have decided to go all in and start making wine again. I was told by a few local winemakers to start Red! My favorite varietal is Syrah so that is what I will be starting with. I am planning on using Cellar Craft's Yakima Valley Syrah Kit and I will probably start just after the holidays.
Essentially the only knowledge I have is very very very basic and have read a few books. I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good read specifically for novices and if there were any home wine making clubs in the Seattle area? It would be nice to connect with actualy people and get a face to face approach with home winemaking. I know we have plenty of homebrewing clubs in the area, but I am not familiar with any home winemaking clubs.
Thats about it for now and I look forward to being on the forums a lot more in the coming years. Cheers!
Alex
