Hi, my wife (Jean) and I (George) want to start wine making. My wife has always wanted to do this, so to start off slow, for her birthday I order 10 vines to start. We know nothing about this but found this site and have a lot of reading and questions to ask.

Also ordered a wine making kit so we can start out easy, before we actually have grapes.

Just wanted to say Hi and you will most likely get tired of my dumb questions and my poor spelling.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to our corner of the net. Lots of knowledgeable people here and most will try and help answer your questions. Read thru the tutorials and currant and old posts when you have time. There are many answers you will find there before you have the questions. Get your kit and get started, have to start before you get some wine to drink. Make sure you get a hydrometer. Actually get two. If you only have one it is sure to get broken. They are pretty fragile, but without one you can not be sure what your wine is doin. Best quit ramblin, again welcome. Arne.

Hi harleydmn,

I love it when I get to welcome another PA'er to winemakingtalk. :db

Welcome

Hi Jean and George,

You're not alone in being new to wine making. I started this past spring. You mentioned getting 10 vines. Have you purchesed or planted these yet? I was wondering what variety you were looking for. There seem to be quite a few members from the PA area and I'm sure you can get some good advise on what varieties do well in your area. York, PA... I used to do a lot of Civil War reenacting, and visited your area several times... beautiful country up there. I live in Western NC.

Again, welcome to the site, and I look forward to seeing more of you both here on the forum.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Paul

Thanks Everyone, lot of learning and having fun ahead of us.
Paul, Got Sauvignon Blanc, I know it will be tough to grow these here, but it is the wifes fav.

Welcome and good luck on your vines you do know that it will take at least three years before your vines start producing some grapes
