Hi

I have cleaned and sanitised as normal.

I am fermenting a Chocolate Raspberry Port it has been in the primary
fermenter for six days. The SG is now 1030 and it is fermenting well, the
temperature is 22 C.

When i was checking the SG I noticed a very thin oily film on the must,
that is not covering the entire surface of the juice.

The must is
smelling and tasting ok. Do you think i have a problem ? If so is
there any thing that i can do ?

Thanks in advance

Garry

Chocolate Raspberry Port sounds so good....

Sometimes we get and oily film on the top of the wine...not too noticeable...Ours is probably from the Vanilla Beans we put in the must.

Thanks for your replies.

I will sleep easier tonight knowing that I haven't killed it before the end of the first stage.

When I used to use well water to make wines I noticed a film like that at times. Various stages of fermentation can leave films like you describe as well. It should be just fine. If there isn't anything growing on the film it should be fine
