Sorry if I've failed to find this elsewhere on the Forum, but I have a really retarded question.
I've read the stickies, and the recipes, and I still don't have it clear in my mind (what's left of it).

Can someone give me a clear, concise answer on what the difference is between Apple Cider and Apple Wine? All I've been able to determine is most people add things besides apples (raisins, cinnamon, etc.) to their cider, but not to wine.

Thanks!

Can't give you a clear answer but I can say that my apple wine has cinnamon, cloves and ginger added to it.

Okay....

Well.... That's just the opposite of what I expected. "Cider" is 2%-8% abv, but wine is 12%-18% abv. Interesting. So last year, my "cider" was actually wine. Hummmm.....
To get 2%-4% cider, with the apples I'm using, I should even have to add any extra sugar.

Isn't apple cider just the juice from the pressed apples and apple wine is fermented juice from the apples?

Yes, no, and yes.
Elsewhere in the world, "cider" is both plain juice, and fermented juice. In the US, fermented cider is "hard cider". The pure alcohol from frozen, fermented cider is "Apple Jack". Wine is wine.

Its dependend on where you live.

In france and england cider is fermented apple juice with 2-5% alcohol.

In the US cider is just apple juice.

Apple wine will be above 9% alcohol.
