Is sitting out on the back patio at dusk (with a glass of wine of course) and watching the bats come out each evening!

Tonight we had 4 of them, 3 adults and a young one fluttering around like a butterfly, looking for flying bugs. I stood out in the middle of the yard and they flew within just a few feet of me at times.

Way cool! This has taken the place of watching for fireflies in the Summer since their virtual extinction.....

We have lots of little caves in the area which seem to be great nesting grounds for the little guys.

We have plenty of fireflies and bats here also although the fireflies are gone now, They come out about June hence why they are also called June bugs. We like throwing up the wiffle ball and watching the bats follow it right down to the ground and then turn up at the very last second like a jet fighter.

WOW is that a cool picture! We still have tons of fire flies. Those bats are huge (even bigger than my ex). We have bats around here but they are much smaller.

Wade you had to beat me to the post again! That sounds pretty cool with the wiffle ball. I am going to have to ty it. My neighbor was just complaining they had a bat in there house the other night.

Cool..I wish we had some. I put up a couple of bat houses over a year ago but no takers on the free rent yet

We were taking a get away in Arkansas some years back and rented a small cabin next to the Little Missouri River. SWMBO and I were walking out next to the water and she noticed something flying around. What kind of birds are those? I said, that's not birds. Talk about change the demeanor of a romantic walk.............

At least she wasn't scared too much. We get an occasional bat in the back yard here in New Orleans, but not that often.

same here , I have had a "bat house" for a few years and no takers

Waldo, in order for the nature centers around here to attract bats to the new houses they have to take Bat droppings from one house and put it in the new one. Still no guarantee but the success rate is much higher.

You guys have fireflies!

I haven't seen one in 30 years probably!

Our bats are Mexican Free-tailed. They seem to be all over the South West. That pic is just one I grabbed off the internets. Ours are small. They move WAY too fast to capture clearly. They don't move in a straight line at all, plus its almost dark out so next to impossible to photograph without it being a complete blur.......

I have four acres of cut grass behind me and yes we get lots of fire flies. The little girls beside my like to catch them in qt jars and take them home in keep them next to their beds at nite.

We get tons of fireflies in the summer. We also have bats swoop around at dusk catching bugs, which is fine with me. I was wondering how you caught them in that pose Mike!
