Ever wonder how much wine was in that carboy or primary bucket? Me too! So today I started a new project. I took 1/2 pvc and mark increments on them for each 1/2 gallon of wine. I will have one for each type and size of container.

This is a picture of the measuring rods. Measurements did not show up very well in picture.

This is the capsule I will store them in with a few inches of k-meta so they will be sanitized inside and out.

Complete capsule with screw top.

I also made a capsule to keep my enolmatic filter in when not in use. It is filled with k-meta and citric acid.

I really need to find a job!!!!

no kidding! thats a great idea.....one also for each carboy size....great idea...seems like such a little thing but really its not a small idea

You need to make me a measuring stick for the 32 gallon Brutes! I'm always trying to estimate how much wine or must I have in them. I keep wanting to do it, but never seem to find the time. You get the measurements and then we can all make the sticks! I know Al would appreciate it also.

It does take some time and dumping in 1/2 or one gallon jugs at a time. It helps to look at the writing on the side of the pvc so you know where to make your mark when you pull it out.

I used a sharpie. Permenant ink. I suppose if one was worried about the ink wearing off they could make little indentations with an engraver.

I just made this up today. The k-meta should not take off the marking as I only have about three inches of solution in it. It is the vapors that is sanitizing the rods inside and out.

I know lots of people who do this exact thing for brewing beer to know when they have boiled the wort long enough. For me I have a sight tube on my keggle with a scale on it.

I think thats a great idea! Hard to believe you have any spare time to do odd projects like this as well as keeping up with all the other wine duties you have!
