I shared my first homemade red with my dad today - Red Mountain Trio. He said while its not as good as The Prisoner, he thinks its similar to a lot of blends that Orin Swift is putting out and would easily compare it to many $20-$25 wines. Made my year!

Very nice complement! Been buying both the Prisoner and Abstract for several years now. To say that it was even remotely close is high praise. MSRP at the winery is $38 on the Prisoner. It is an unusual blend of mostly Zinfandel, Cab Sauv, Syrah, Petit Syrah. The RMT was Cab Suav, Syrah, Merlot.

Well done and its only getting better!

Thanks all! Note: he said it was NOT as good as The Prisoner. :p

I've been thinking this is a $20 bottle of wine, and the fact the he agreed is high praise. Mentioning Orin Swift in the same paragraph was a nice bonus. :D

I bottled this wine before I had my Vadai up and running, but I did follow Mike's guidance and give it 6g of TanCor Grand Cru. That made a huge difference. I have another batch of this in my Vadai now and can't wait to compare the two.

If you are making a $20-25 bottle of wine, that is high praise indeed, no matter what it is compared to. Good for you!

I agree with above posts and is 1 reason why I kept maikng so much wine despite the fact I dont really drink much and never really did. I really made it for others but did drink some myself also. Nothing better then making a bottle of wine for $2 or less and people saying it compares to a $20 or more bottle. Or even better making an Amarone and having it compared to a $8% or more bottle! LOL
