Hi everyone and thanks for the forum.

I usually wait before I even register but I only needed to read a few posts here to realise this is a nice place to visit and learn a little.

I've made several batches in the past but never at home and always came out disappointed.

A couple of months ago I decided to give it another try but using WE Premium. I went for the Australian Shiraz (this grape has always been one of my favourites and, the Valpolicella. I do hope they age well.

So, like I said, I is here to learn.
Have a great day.

Thank you for the Welcome

Welcome. What did you use to make the 1st few wines that you were disappointed in?

The 3 batches that I remember were all WE's and all reds. One was definitely a Merlot but can't remember the rest. And of course they were from the 'Value' list.

Heck I was so disappointed I gave most of the last batch away.

But, that's in the past and the current batches are promising.

The kit wines tend to be a little thinner than their commercial equivalents. The more premium kits will be better, but still not quite as full bodied.

Also, you really must give them some aging time, a year for the better whites and 18 months to 2 years for the reds.

Read up on a product called Tancor Grand Cru. It is an addition you can make to any red kit, before bottling; it can noticeably improve what we call the mouth-feel of the wine.

Thanks Robie, I will do some reading on the Tancor Grand Cru.

Also, I'm so glad I'm not going crazy when I think the wines are 'thinner' and that other agree with me.

One thing I've learnt for sure is the aging period.

Thank you.
