Anyone here have to replace the screen on the above phone? How much of a pain is it? I need to replace the one on my wifes phone. Pretty sure it's only the screen as there is no distortion of the screen when pressing on it. That was what was recommended to check to make sure the digitizer wasn't cracked as well.

Lets hear your pointers...

Try you tube

I was able to pull the entire screen off a iPhone and replace the battery also.

Followed step by step instructions

Thanks Steve

My phone has the same issue. I have heard it is not way too hard to replace them, might be worth it if its cracked pretty badly .

make sure you have a very good table mounted magnifying glass, a set of tweezers, a set of jewlery screwdrivers...and a steady hand.
other then that.....get a new s4 galaxy.. way better then s3

Did the same with my previous iPhone. The net was full of videos and I was able to get the parts I needed for $6. Well worth the risk of ruining my phone that was off contract. I figured worst case, I'd get a new phone sooner than I wanted. I can't speak for the Samsung phones specifically, but would imagine the degree of difficulty is about the same.

Had she not gotten her replacement 4 months ago I would have considered a new phone. She is no where near ready for a replacement at a discount. I've heard its not too bad and to allow an hour or so. The parts and the tool kit were only $23. I may be able to talk a friend into coming over for it. I did hear the youtube videos were strongky encouraged.

my phone is rooted...i would hate to replace it as well....if you watch some videos of it, you should be able to do it...after all, it was probably some 12 year old kid making 5 dollars a day that put it together.

The screen is due to arrive. I guess I'll give it a shot this weekend. Worse comes to worse I end up buying another phone at full price...

Good luck.

It goes without saying but make sure you have the tools you need before you get started. I needed two specialized, tiny screwdrivers and a small suction cup for lifting the screen out. Fortunately, they came with the parts.

Parts kit came yesterday. It included several tiny screwdriver, the suction cup, guitar pics, and misc other plastic tools (prybars of different sizes). Directions included seem pretty straight forward. I have both a heatgun or can use a hair dryer. Dryer they say can take upwards of an hour to heat old glue. I'm trying to locate my old heat gun that I used when building model planes. It doesn't get as hot as my Milwalkee heatgun but is hotter than a hairdryer. Probably going to attempt this weekend.

Let me know how this goes, I am thinking of getting a samsung and I am notorious for scratching/cracking my screen on my cell, lol

Samsung galaxy screen is made from gorilla glass, i have one, and its pretty tough...I had the nano added, which makes it waterproof...all in all, a pretty nice phone....

I have the S4 and love it so far. My wife dropped hers a week after she got her replacement, that crack wasn't too bad but when she knocked it off the counter 2 weeks ago it cracked more. Maybe now I can talk her into an OTTER BOX case..

I knock mine onto the kitchen floor and since it is ceramic, it was not forgiving. Still worked so I kept using it until it was time to trade in on a new one. Then I left the new one on the counter and forget it when we were going out to dinner one night, came back to get it and Jesse decided to use it as a skate to skate across the same ceramic floor that trashed the my other cellphone. LOL, I had an otterbox but took it off the week before, cuz it was just too dam bulky!

That's why Olesia doesn't like them. They are bulky but my prior phone lasted 2 1/2 years and still isn't cracked. It just started acting up and would only hold a charge for an hour or so. It was time to upgrade.

I also bought the otter box on my last two phones and removed them within three weeks. I agree it was too bulky plus it was difficult to get in and out of my pocket due to the friction of the unit. I have the Samsung 3 and love it.
