Last night myself and the future Mrs. stayed up until midnight to celebrate one week until our wedding. I had purchased a nice bottle of sparkling wine and decided to perform my first sabreage to make the moment more special. Surprisingly it was very easy, all I did was follow instructions from various youtube videos. Some guidelines to follow include:
- Do not point at anyone or anything of value!!!!!!!! :wy
- Hold the bottle on a 45 degree angle
- Use the unsharpened side of the kitchen knife/sabre and keep it flat on the bottle
- Hit the bottle where the seam meets the neck
- Follow through straight instead of an arc
- Only perform on a good quality champagne bottle (Cheap bottles that are carbonated like soda could possibly shatter). Look for things like méthode champenoise on the bottle.

Here are the results, a perfectly clean break and a great way to share a special moment :try

The beauty is the pressure ensures all glass pieces get blown away from the bottle. No real danger if glass inside.

Yes, we did not drink any glass that I am aware of, :). If you saw how fast the cap blew off you would not be worried about glass either, the pressure is pretty impressive. I found the neck and cork around 15 yards away from where I hit it. Wade, the French will take credit for anything, lol. The tradition started from Napoleon from what I read.
