I've been storing my hydro, thief, funnels, airlocks, etc in a bucket of starsan.
The man at the LHBS said this was OK, he recomended it. Now everything has a white film. It scrubs off on things you can get to easily but things like the inside of the thief won't clear.
Will this harn anything, especially the wine?
Will anything clean it without scrubbing? CLR?

I'm not sure what will clean it. But I generally do not store anything in liquid even if it is a sanitizer. I want things clean and dry. As long as its dry nasty stuff cannot grow in it.

I agree,

If you keep your equipment dry and storred out in the open, you do not have much to worry about. Just rinse with k-meta prior to use.

Think of it this way. How long does a plate stay in your kitchen cupboard before use? would you be concerned on using one that has been sitting in there for a week or two. Probably not.

I know that this may not be exactly the same scenario. All I am saying is that if you clean after each use, and k-meta prior to use, you have nothing to fear.

Agree with JohnT, etc. Clean sanitize and store. When you want to use, clean or rinse again, sanitize and then use. Always clean everything right after use. That's what the books say! Cheers, Gary

Dave, did you try putting the thief and other stuff into hot water and leaving them there awhile? It may dissolve the residue.

If I'm not mistaken, Star San is NOT recommended for porous surfaces such as plastic.
They recommend one of their other products for porous surfaces. ..that said, I use Star San to clean my thief and most everything, but I wouldn't leave plastic to sit snd soak in it for long periods of time.
Your lhbs should know this, shame on them.

Thanks I tried boiling everything for 20 minutes. I'll try a longeer soak
And will definetly store dry from now on
May look for a small brush for the thief.

I store everything I can fit in a corkidor. There is a jar of KMeta in there, so its humid, but the stuff isn't soaking in anything.

I'd contact the maker of StarSan an ask them directly. If the is a good answer, they will have it and I'm sure they will want to help.

When you do get the correct answer, please share it will all of us.
