My first rq/limited edition kit arrived today! I am so excited its the first of the 3 limited edition /restricted quantities we ordered this year! Woohoo!

Mine should be here Monday or Tuesday. I can't wait. My very first LE kit.

I ordered a South African... Shiraz? due in January. I had forgotten all about it, you just made my day! Last time at the LHBS, I picked up the new WE Viognier kit. Looking forward to that one too, should have it in the primary next week.

Got mine Tuesday and really excited about it. Waiting for it to come to room temp before starting it. Probably this weekend.

I got mine on Monday and was so excited. Then I realized I don't have a free 6 gal carboy available. I'll have to wait at least a week before I can start it. :(

The juice color is very interesting though. Can't wait to see how this develops.

I measured starting SG before addition of the dried grape skins. MY starting SG was 1.100 -at the 23 L mark -Never had such a high starting SG before. For you guys that started yours, what was your starting SG and would you add water or just let 'er rip? Beautiful purple-red color!
Thanks!

I haven't started mine yet, but 1.10 is fine and leave you with about 13%. I would let her rip.

I'm wondering what everyone is thinking about this wine so far. Mine is 10 days old and seems to be almost done at .997. Has anyone gotten it lower? It seems pretty dry already. I think I may have to back-sweeten a bit.

I am doing this kit also but my SG was 1.080. I know this is the low end of the acceptable range but am wondering why everyone else's was 1.100. I did check my hydrometer and it did seen ok. So can I assume my wine will have a lower ABV?

Hi Lori,
Sorry I just saw your email.
I started at 1.102 and got down to 0.995.

That sounds spot on. I guess I won't worry about mine going lower. I racked to secondary two days ago and it went down to .997, but seems to want to stay there. I did not top up or add the stabilizers because I think it's still working. And to me, that seems early compared to other kits. I will rack again in a day or so because it is still dropping sediment. It has almost 2 inches so I will probably rack down to a 5 gal.

Oreoman, 1.08 will give you a lower abv for sure. If you didn't already pitch the yeast, you can bump it up with a little sugar if you are sure that is the correct reading. The instructions say that it should be between 1.074 and 1.10, "depending on the wine kit". Before you do that, maybe send a email to Spangnols. Especially since everyone else's is 1.10. Just a thought.

This kit is very good. I have made a dozen or so of them with them finishing between .994-.996. I tried some a few days ago and found it to be quite smooth for just being filtered. The Shiraz spice is not as pronounced as I would have thought but time will tell I guess.

Good for you, but how in the world did you make a dozen of an restricted quantities/limited edition kit?
