I racked my Green Apple Riesling to a carboy tonite after 7 days and aSG of1.010. It has a funny smell mixed in with the fermentation smell, it tasted bad, and has a white milky haze. Could there be contamination or am I still too impatient?

Can you better describe the funny smell Coaster? RE: Smells like rotten eggs, lighter fluid, a pair of musty socks,,,,,,The color looks fine for the stage you are at. Just be patient and soon you have a carboy full of beautiful wine

I agree....don't get concerned yet until you have completed the batch as you only 1/3 of the way there.

I agree with everyone else. Unless you are smelling something like rotten eggs (which could indicate a problem), the smells/flavors that seem off are on account of the ongoing fermentation.

Relax, have a glass of (finished) wine, and wait until the fermentation is complete.

Smells sour, had a slightly bitter taste to it. I wouldn't say rotten eggs yet. I expected some sweetness with the little residual sugar there was but didn't sense any. Was bubbling away this morn.

Thanks guys, will keep you posted.
