Sorry for the multiple posts, but I've always used k-meta for sanitizing but recently decided to try star san. I mixed it in a bucket that I normally use for wine making as per the instructions and it came out smelling a bit like rotten eggs. ??

I have been using Star San for years in multiple hobbies, never had an issue, infection, or rotten egg smell. Strange issue you are having. Definitely not normal for Star San.

Try using distilled water and see if it makes a difference. It will also last a lot longer. I buy gallon jugs of it and mix and store it in them.

Just remembered that I washed the bucket out with bleach a week ago. I rinsed in good but I wonder if some of the residual bleach mixed with something in the star San caused the smell.

Bleach is not a friend of wine making. Be very careful having anything to do with mixing bleach and winemaking.

Before we blame the use of bleach or Star San, it is possible that this rotten egg smell comes from something else like a stressed fermentation, for example. Bleach will not convert the dodecylbenzenesulfonic acid in Star San into a sulfide derivative.
