I found stemless goblets under the tree this year. Santa is kind. My wife says it's probably due to me breaking all the china. lol..

I've found I prefer these stemless glasses over the traditional ones. I don't really know why the stems are there anyways, other than making it much easier to turn over.
Somebody told me once that the stems are there so you don't heat up the wine when you hold it in your hand. I guess that's somewhat valid, but I'll take the tradeoff.
 
Yes, the stems are important in drinking chilled white wines, so as not to take the chill out of the wine. With some red wines, it might be beneficial to warm the wine with your hand.
