Stuck in Secondary?

Picked up some Fermax yeast nutrient today at the LHBS.

Let's suppose I go down to check it tonight and it's no further along. This is the RJS Cellar Series Aussie Cab, and current SG is 0.997 (average of the last two readings).

How much Fermax should I put in?

I'm guessing I dissolve it in a half cup of warm water and pour it in. Yes?

Should be some directions on the package. I think there are two types, Fermax K and Fermax O. If you have the O my package states to add 1.5g per gallon of must and to rehydrate in distilled water and add at 1/3 sugar depletion stage. Now you are obviously past that stage, so I don't know that you'd want to use the whole 1.5g per gallon measure.

Hopefully someone has used the nutrient you have at the later part of fermentation and will chime in.

Note to self - when dosing with Fermax, make sure to siphon enough wine away to avoid a mini wine volcano.

I added 4.5 tsp to some warm water and stirred it in. Aside from a little run off, it's acting like it's doing something good.

Sorry about that. Set you up for that one. On further memory review I did notice that it liberated a bit of CO2 last time I used it, but it was in the primary bucket so I had some spare room.

Steve - it's the Australia Cabernet Sauvignon - Cellar Classic Winery Series, with genuwine skins. It's been in the secondary (carboy) for about two weeks now and not much has happened.

I have a thread going on this batch generally in the beginners section.

Can't read the online instructions as the file is giving me an error.

Unless there have been changes, I doubt that this wine will get below .998. If it does, it might reach .995. Just the nature of this kit.

It's a learning process. I was actually laughing as soon as it started because I should have seen it coming.

"Liberated a bit of CO2" is a nice descriptive.

That's about the best I'm hoping for, Steve (0.995). Will check it again on Monday morning.

I have both this and the chard in carboys now.
