What vines are those? I have frontenac that grows like that. Gave them a haircut last year, and had a heck of a time with my netting. Think I'll just leave them alone this year, besides I haven't had time. Some fronds are over six feet long. We are getting rain, finally. Rained hard last night and a boomer right now again. Had some serious cracks in the ground!

Eight yr old cab sauv vines. Even on a split trellis 16 ft canes aren't unusual and I don't fertilize except last fall I spread a 40lb bag of organic fert and a couple bags of black cow down the middles of about 80 vines. The growth is more based on the root stock and sandy soil. I have several Cab vines on their own roots and they have maybe 25% of the vigor of grafted vines.
