I just racked to another carboy to set aside for bulk ageing and I need to top it off.....Would you use water or just another red wine to do so...

Thanks

I would guess maybe 1/2 to 3/4 of a 750ml wine bottle.......As far as the ABV I have no idea..

I would use a port to top off.

I was going to suggest that or some brandy depending on ABV.

What was the starting SG and the ending SG?

Have you tasted it yet, if its too sweet then red wine or fruit wine if you have any available. If you think youd like to bump up the alc on it a little then some Brandy or Grain alc. If you fell its too thick(viscous) then add water but thats something I never do.

Thanks for the input.....Admiral, the Starting SG was 1.130 and the finishing SG was 1.012, but there was a chaptalisation step inbetween, so I really do not know what the ABV will turn out to be.....I'm not sure what the addition of sugar added.

I ended up topping off with a WE red that I just bottled a few weeks ago.....

I also quit using water to top off my wines, as I feel it will make them thinner than they should be....

I hust racked my CRP and added a little k-meta. It doesn't need much topping off, so would it hurt to just use Vodka. Or would it mess with the taste....

vodka ???? LOL.... that is the first time i saw that.....still learning but like the way you guys think.....lets get more alcohol in there.....so that is what i will use if i need to top....i do have some homemade brandy with rasp. blackberry combined.......suppose i could use that also....but will stick with some good ole vodka.

This is a port wine and ports can be higher in abv then these kits will produce usually so fortifying it is always an option. Just taste as you do so so as to not over do it.
