vacuum degassing w/pump

what is the set up for vacuum degassing using a vacuum pump? would you run tubing from pump direct to carboy and enter carboy using a double bong with a cap on the second bong, would this set up create to much vacuum and cause the carboy to break. Wade????

I run the hose from the pump to a single hole rubber bung. The pump I sell will not implode a carboy unless you do not have it properly filled. Never put full vacum to an empty carboy!!!! When degassing i have never needed to go over 22" of vacuum.

You can not use this system on Better Bottles.

I tried it on a better bottle very carefully. Just does not work. the sides are far to flexible. I have been racking into glass to degass and then racking back to plastic.

I had stirred until my arms were sore on a 3 gal port. I thought I had everything out. A couple weeks later I had the vacuum setup going and tried it. Looked like draft beer! It really does work quick and easy.

Now I need to get a couple more glass carboys to avoid double racking.
