Is there a diference in the term gram and grain. i like to measure my own ingredients if possible but dont have all the information i need to get the job done confidently. my first project will be to use sodium/potassium metabisulfate powder instead of campden tablets.

Why?? because i would like to see if i can do it.

I sure would like some help with this measuring project. Being so very inexperienced, the amount of information that i believe i should have is a bit overwhelming

i found that 1 grain = 64.7981 miligrams
i guess i have to look at the scale instructions again.

Stick with weighing ingredients in grams and leave the grains to weighing gunpowder

There are 480 grains in a troy ounce and 7,000 grains in a pound. One grain = 64.799 milligrams = 0.324 carats.

The prefix "milli" means 1/1000. Therefore, 1 milligram = 0.001 grams, or 1000 mg = 1 g. 1 mg = 1e-6 kg. 1 mg = 3.52e-5 ounces.

A gram is 1/1000th of a kilogram. A gram is equal to the mass of water contained in a cube one cm on each side (one cubic centimeter = 1 cc = 1 cm3 of water weighs 1 gram).

Naturally i couldn't sleep because of not knowing the answer that i was actually looking for. I was just drifting around on the harley today and thinking onltof metric conversions. NOT FUN.
ok so i searched and searched on the web

1 gram= 15.43258 grains

so naturally 1/2 gram =7.71 grains

.44 grams = 6.78 grains.

who has 10+ pounds of sodium metabisulfate to use up and a gunpowder scale that he refuses to retire????
