I have no idea how the software automatically works for that field -- the software has been upgraded numerous times since I joined. However, you can go into your Account Details and add a Custom Title. The following link should take you to your account page.

There is a custom title ladder based on the number of posts you have made.
But as winemaker81 pointed out, a member can go to their own custom title and change it to something clever or just a fact.
