Hi Everyone,

My LHBS is offering to sell me this kit for $99 :D 18L kit plus skins! Good deal! Anyone done this kit? If so, how was it?

Also, with these dried grapeskins, is there any reason not to just throw the grapeskins in loose? Why would I need to but them in a nylon sac?

Thanks!

If you throw the dried grape skins in loose, you may have a problem racking the wine to carboy. I have a couple of stainless steel gadgets from a restaurant supply store to get the grape skins out before racking. However, it's a bit more work than having the skins in a bag.

With the skins in a bag you can squeeze the bag, as well as get them out easily.

We just recently bottled this kit after 12 months of bulk aging. My notes at the time we're quite brief. "ok at bottling, definitely needs more time". I see no advantage to letting the skins float free. I've tried it both ways, it's just more work without the bag.

Yep. As someone else mentioned a few months ago, we need someone to begin fabricating a 'French press' style fermenter.
