Whole House water filters for wine

I use a 5 and a 1. Only use twice if I am racking two wines on the same day. Otherwise, they are cheap enough to be used only one time. (http://www.micronfiltercartridges.com/filters.html) I use the string filters. Never had a problem. Richard L.

    Glycerin Question

I use 3-4 oz per 5 gallons for mouth feel. It is not enough for me to taste sweetness, it does improve body. I would use no more than 4 oz. per 5 gal. Richard L.

cheap oil lubed vacuum pump for degassing

My Harbor Freight pump is oil lubed. My wife or I have never smelled or seen oil. The pump is great and will easily pull 28 inches which I never do. One time when bottling with it, I allowed wine to get into the pump through the vacuum side. My big error. I changed the oil and have had no...

    Filtering

I got my whole house filter at home depot a couple years ago. I filter first with a 5 micron filter and before bottling I use a 1 micron filter. I use the cheap string filters and toss after use. I froze a used filter one time but had bad feelings about reusing it so I never did it again. I...
