What are your "Top 10" including equipment/tips/tricks pertaining to Kit Wine Making?

I love making fruit wines and 4-6 week kits so my suggestions are quite different from Brian55's. As you can tell from my choices, I'm not a patient winemaker but I love my wines sweeter so these are well suited for someone who wants to be drinking their wines in a matter of weeks, not months or...

    @Rhubarb plus what?

How interesting! I was gifted rhubarb and have been unsure what to do with it as I wasn't sure I really wanted a wine made from it. Now I'm intrigued!

Noob just looking for some starter tips on chemicals and anything else i can absorb!

My best purchase ever has been the All in One pump. Makes the whole process of racking, degassing and bottling a breeze. I love Star San too because it's easy and effective...and because I have a horrible reaction to k-meta in sanitizing strength. Finally, because I make lots of quick drinking...

    Best label removal hack EVER

Yes, I would imagine that they are going to get extremely hot in the sun! We had 103° today and when I went to move the water outside (I was barefoot) I burnt the base of my toes on the decorative rocks in the flower bed. Not exactly my brightest move but it shows how hot things can get!

    Best label removal hack EVER

Man, things have changed, haven't they?! Here I am on my phone with built in memory 100x bigger than my first computer, in a size smaller overall than that 5 1/4 inch floppy disk which held just 320 KB.

    Best label removal hack EVER

The first computer I bought cost $2300 I think (that included the printer), ran Windows 3.1 and had a 640 MB hard drive. Man, I thought I had something!

    Cloudy after back sweetening

I'll answer for Dawg too 🤣🤣🤣 Actually I'll share my method...I add potassium Metabsulfite and sorbate, backsweeten and add finings all on the same day. Then I let it clear for however long that takes (usually around a week), then rack, filter, and bottle all on the same day.

Yes, that definitely would eliminate the issue!

Mixed up DB but out of EC-1118

Thanks! I was wondering if it was possible to make one package work for two batches 😊

Mixed up DB but out of EC-1118

Thanks for the info! The batches are different versions...a straight quad-berry one and a 2/3 grape - 1/3 mixed berry one...so mixing them isn't an option. With the info you shared though that 71B is a good alternative, I think I'll use it on the grape/berry as these batches tend to turn out...

Mixed up DB but out of EC-1118

Hi all! Yesterday I mixed up 2 different batches of Dragon Blood. I was going to pitch the yeast today only to realize that I only have 1 packet of EC-1118. I do have a 71B...if i use that, do you think it will significantly change the flavor profile? I'm making them for a friend and I don't...

    Salute from Canada

Hi Mario! This site is great so I'm sure you'll love it here 😊. I've been making wine for about 6 years but strictly make kits or country wines. It's a fun and addicting hobby, isn't it?!

So glad that everything turned out great 😊 It looks awesome! I really like my Vinbrite even though it can be a challenge to find filters at times. I bought 2 packs of 5 on Amazon a while back for $27. When I went to reorder, the price had gone up to $46! Thank goodness I found some on a...

    rebottling

Ugh, sorry you had to go through all that work. I don't even have a ph kit...when all you do is Dragon Blood, Skeeter Lime, and kit wines you don't worry about it ;)

    WineXpert Island Mist Supplement

You could use some sort of frozen juice or juice cocktail concentrate (orange, apple, cherry, cranberry, strawberry/banana, blueberry/pomegranate) or cocktail mixures (a daiquiri one might be really good).

HELP I saw a fruit fly in my cellar!

I've tried dishes of sanitizer or wine to drown them but that is more of a long term solution and doesn't help with the ones flying around the wine room when you're ready to work. The best thing I've found for the that is a vacuum. I keep it running and as flies try to land anywhere near my...

Favorite Dragon Blood or Skeeter Variation

I've made some Dragon Bloods, from start of ferment to in the bottle, in around 3 weeks. I don't bulk age them though (hell, I don't age them at all 😂) so I can pour my first glass in under a month.

    Cloudy after back sweetening

I often judge whether my wine is clear enough and ready to bottle by testing to see if I can clearly read a paper through it. Even when my wine looks beautifully clear, I can see what looks like suspended particles in a flashlight beam but I have never found that it causes sediment in the...
