degassing done poorly, should I rebottle?

Once I realized the issue, I have been using the Vacu Vin on each bottle once I open it. I pour a glass, then pump up the bottle to pull out the CO2 multiple times after agitating the wine. Sometimes the foam is 3 or 4 inches high; I must have really done a poor job! (The sulphite was added...

degassing done poorly, should I rebottle?

It is clear to me that I did a bad job degassing some wine kits. Can/should I empty the bottles, run them through the all-in-one Santa got me (early present, I've been good this year), and rebottle? If I go that route, do I need to resanitize the bottles or add more meta bisulfite?

    Excellent, thank you, thank you!:b

    Stag's Leap opinion?

I just saw you're in Louisiana. My wife and I are heading down to "nawlins" in September (first time), staying in the French Quarter. Any secret insider info on a great place to eat, drink, or be merry? Contrary to the Stag's leap conversation, we're more of the good deal people than 5-star...

    Stag's Leap opinion?

The names of each wine are linked to their respective pages online. I'd be paying Stag Leap's prices of $100, $115, and $85 respectively for $300 total (plus tax and shipping?) I'd get $90 back from my CC, so net cost would be $210. Thanks for all your info!

    Stag's Leap opinion?

Johnd, Thanks for the input! Their website does show for some of the wines high ratings from various sources like Wine Advocate. If i went for the deal, I'd probably default to picking up the following: 2014 Stags' Leap Winery Ne Cede Malis Petite Sirah Napa Valley 2014 Stags' Leap The Leap...

    Stag's Leap opinion?

I see a deal offered through my credit card - spend $300 at Stag leaps website, get $90 back. Part of me says "I can make 60 bottles versus buying 2-3 bottles of Stag's leap" while the devil in me says "That might be really cool to have for VERY special occasions in the future years". Assuming...

What are the worse descriptors someone else used to describe your wine?

One of my female neighbors at a wine tasting said my RJS Super Tuscan tasted like "mop water". Previously her husband told me that he prefers his wine "to be more alcohol-forward" than mine were.

    WineXpert Eclipse Forza

Forza is back, and it's not limited edition this time! Looks like it's shipping at the end of January for those interested.:db

Can you rack too much ?

This thread reminds me of the movie "Bottle Shock". In the film, the Chardonnay turns brown for 24 hours after bottling, a twist that devastates Jim, who believes his new release is doomed. Though the wine did turn off-color for a short time after it was bottled, this is actually a somewhat...

    varietal % in kits

Very interesting. How does the finished product from their kits compare to the major kit makers like Winexpert and RJS? Does it still have the "kit taste" that some people are sensitive to?

Anyone want to swap some bottles?

From https://www.wineinstitute.org/initiatives/stateshippinglaws/faqs#9 Is it okay for a private individual to ship wine? No, it is never legal for an individual to ship wine. The US Postal services will not carry alcohol under any circumstances. Both FedEx and UPS have company policies that...

Anyone want to swap some bottles?

Okay, you all convinced me it's too much of a pain in the *** - forget about it.

Anyone want to swap some bottles?

I'd be into shipping 3 assorted bottles to anyone for 3 of their finished red kit product that's different than mine. People on this forum have stated it's okay to ship "steak marinade" through the mail, so here's a list of my available steak marinades: RJS Super Tuscan with BM4x4 yeast -...

    varietal % in kits

Do you think that the fresh juice buckets that come in to my (kinda) local wine kit store from Chile, Italy, or California are not 100% varietals then?

    varietal % in kits

I spoke to Winexpert and was surprised and disappointed at how little of the kit name is actually in there. For example, the Eclipse Ranch 11 Cab Sav I made is only 25% as described with the rest Cab Savs from other areas and countries, plus some other varietals as well. Similar information was...

    WineXpert Eclipse Forza

I bottled my Forza on 11/28/15. Opened a bottle yesterday also! Your description pretty much matches my notes. My wife gave it a big thumbs-up as well. jgmann67 - Did you have any "wine diamonds" in yours like I did? Is their any significance to them?

    bag in a box

I see they also sell 1.5L bags. That size would be a perfect complement to 750ml bottles. "Opening" a bag that size between me and my wife won't last that long. It works for a party as well. If someone only drinks a glass or two of a certain wine, I won't have an open glass bottle of wine...
