Wire clips for training steak fastening

Hi all, I'm installing a trellis for a few vines in my backyard. I purchased all necessary hardware except for the wire clips to fasten the wire to the rebar training steaks., because the supplier only sells them in 1000 count bags. Does anyone know where to buy less then 100? these are for 3/8...

    Increasing sun exposure

That should help also, besides the reflective quality; they store the heat for later when the sun is gone. I have seen a picture of grapevines at Châteauneuf-du-Pape where huge rocks are all over the vineyard under the vines and they mention just that.

    Increasing sun exposure

Obbnw, thanks for sharing your experience. Most of the Mylar sheets are 2Mil thick, but there some that are 6 Mil, perhaps they would stand up better to wrinkling. Also some have a diamond pattern to defuse the light. Regarding the coating wash off, I didn’t know that. As far as rain goes...

    Increasing sun exposure

Mylar sheets are commonly used in greenhouses with grow lamps. In the case of grapevines, there is a danger of burning the fruit if too much sun light is reflected. If someone tried it, I would like to know. Thanks

    Increasing sun exposure

Hi all, I have a row of grapes next to a fence with less than 8 hours of sun exposure per day. I’m thinking to place a reflective Mylar sheet on the fence to increase sun exposure. Has anyone done something like this, can you share your experience or opinion on this? Thanks

    Cold box wine storage project

That works too, if you don't mind that the unit runs all the time, some extra power consumption perhaps. One limitation to consider is that when the outside temperature is lower then 62 F, the unit will not cool below that. Mine cools down to 52 F.

    Sterilizing Strainer Bags

Agree, if the grapes are not sterile, the press and the bag do not have to be necessarily either. But, I also believe that it is up to each individuals personal preference. Found this in the Speidel user manual: “The press cloth can also be cleaned thoroughly with water. The cloth may be...

Do you use tap water for wine making ?

Natural spring water? Do you really believe it? It is a marketing terminology Do you believe that a mass produced bottled water can be sourced from mountain springs as shown on the bottles? Regardless how your tap water tastes, it must contain chlorine, the best thing to do is to filter it. I...

    Anyone try Hungarian oak Sticks?

I have used Hungarian oak cubes in the past and presently and was very satisfied with the results. The good thing about the cubes, is that you can dose it how you want. The recommended dosage for medium toast is 2 to 3 Oz per gallon. I left them in for 12 month and it came out how I like it, not...

    REVIEW: *allinonewinepump*

Regarding Steve, I had the opportunity to meet him in person and I was very impressed. I was in the process to build a bottle filler and found an article Steve wrote about the subject and needed some help. Steve answered right away and since I live in the same area, he offered to stop by. He...

    Are all airlocks created equal?

I have the same problem with the three piece airlocks on carboys; they pop out easily especially if the inside of the mouth is wet. This happens on all smooth mouth carboys made in China, but the Italian carboys have a rough surface inside the mouth and these rarely have this problem. The...

    Lifting the carboy.

I have been using the “All-in-One Carboy Cover” for a few years and I found them very useful. Not only the lifting is safer, but they protect againsts accidental cracks and against light. There are durable carboy jackets with reinforced bottom and handles for lifting...

Homemade vs. Commercial and what I am doing to close the gap

Hi NorCal, I wonder how realistic is to try to make a high quality wine for 5 dollars a bottle? Do you buy your grapes, or do you have your own vineyard? Even if you buy the grapes, do you factor in the cost of the work you put in? Not to mention the automated and streamlined process a...

Looking for suggestions for a Wine Cooler

I have a Danby under counter wine cooler for about 15 years and it worked well except for the fact that one of the blower fans inside the unit needed replacement because it became very noisy This unit has terrible ratings, but I guess I was lucky. Whatever you get be aware that you need to...
