    Wine Bucket homemade

I was in Home Depot(home improvement store in the US) and saw some orange large buckets that fit very tight! They cost $4 USD. My bucket cost me $20. I see wine fermentor "Grommets" (rubber pieces that go in hole that you drill) are very cheap. Anyone here make there own? Any here...

August 31, 2009 (5th full day of primary) Opened the lid and just checked the SG, no more stirring...1.05...getting there!!! Everything smells great and I will be sneaking a taste later tonight :) I'm guessing its going to be around 1.035. I would assume if it is 1.035 the alcohol is...

    Final SG for Red Zinfandel?

I got 5.5 gallons of Red Zin going and would like to know what you all do to nail down when to yank the plug on the fermentation process. Without asking I would just test periodically and once it hits my target toss in the sorbate. What is a good Final SG for my Zin? Started SG was at...

Dry, Medium Dry, Sweet, Very Sweet

I found this basic scale: 1. 0.990-1.000 Dry 2. 1.000-1.010 Medium Sweet 3. 1.010-1.025 Sweet 4. 1.125 & up Very Sweet I read wine can go to .96 as well. Some questions questions: 1) I am going to do first rack at 1.02, should I then test the racked wine...

Thanks all. U would like a good Pinot noir for next batch. Is the concentrate lessor quality than the 100% real juice? Anybrand suggestions?

    Wine Kit reviews/prices

I was wondering if there is a thread here or somewhere on reviews of the wine kits and whether they are concentrated or not, etc. Also, is it cheaper to get them online and shipped or at the local shop? Thanks...

RJ Spagnols 1st wine brew and diary - Vino del Vida wine kit

August 29th, 2009 ------------------ Today is day 4 of the fermentation....Plenty of gas bubbles coming up through the airlock and no bad smells. I assume things are GOOD! I took a SG measurment and got around 1.72 ish. I had thought it may have been a bit lower than this but for the...

RJ Spagnols 1st wine brew and diary - Vino del Vida wine kit

August, 26 2009 7pm --------------------- Pulled the cap off the white 6 gallon bucket and kept it in a sanitized area. Cleaned and sanitized a measuring cup and filled it with some of the juice from the bucket. I poured in my yeast and mixed well and let sit for 5 minutes. Then I...

RJ Spagnols 1st wine brew and diary - Vino del Vida wine kit

cp, Yes this was the standard kit I assume. It was NOT a world tour one like the Shiraz one was. And it had what I assume was oak which was in a silver, non see thru baggie. and the berries were in a clear smaller baggie.

RJ Spagnols 1st wine brew and diary - Vino del Vida wine kit

CP, Thanks for your reply. I cleaned everything fairly well as ut was new outside in the yard. Then I sanitized with the k meta. I think you are correct on the Pinot. I am guessing if I was using real grapes I would need the k meta prior but since this is kit I don't? I will stir...

RJ Spagnols 1st wine brew and diary - Vino del Vida wine kit

August, 25 2009 6pm So I spent $200 yesterday and got all my supplies and a "Vino del Vida" red Zinfandel kit. My girlfriend and I were excited. We like Pinot Noir mostly but the local brew guy suggested red zin after a chat on his personal results. The local guy told me I really didn't...

How's my plan look before I begin...

So let me try to understand this... If I just want a hint of raspberry in my Pinot noir I can put some mashed up raspberries into the must and stir....then I assume I should check the sg. Will the additional fruit require that I back off on the sg to let's say a 1.075 b/c of the sugars in...

How's my plan look before I begin...

Thanks... A few specific questions.... If I wanted to add tannins, oak flavor, etc when do you add those flavorings? Also if I want a hint of mint, rasberry, strawberry could I just smash them up by hand and pour then in the initial must then through the racking process get rid of the...

How's my plan look before I begin...

I am writing some steps to what I have learned for making wine and I would like to hear some comments before I move on with actually doing this. I will be getting a pinot noir kit from a local shop. From the vids I have watched I don’t know if I am making 5 gallons or 6.5. Not sure why I am...
