    Why would anyone want to reuse it??? I use it, and then kill the bacteria in the sink drain. I also store some in empty carboys but always dump it. Richard L.

    I only put a capsule on when it is ready to be gifted.

    Yep, it keeps things out of the wine so I use them. I do have a problem with dropping them into places that I can't reach without moving carboys. Therefore you may see some of my locks topped with a cotton ball. Sid, I'd like a pic of your gadget, maybe one with your lady standing next to it...

    Keeping corks wet

    Right on Dan. I store them on the sides and occasionally give them a twist. I do think that the corks should be kept wet, but as Dan said, why? Maybe just to follow tradition. As to twisting, I think that it is to hide residue if there is any.

    Put some in a wine bottle. Cover the opening with your thumb and shake it. Carefully remove your thumb. Then you will know how much gas is left.

    Free run using a vacuum pump

    I use juice. But if i crushed grapes, i would use your system. There is nothing like good old american ingenuity.

    I have found that after vacuum racking 3 times, there is no need to degas. And, yes I use a short piece of tubing and let it splash. I've been doing it for more than 2 years with no problems. I try to keep the sulfite at about 30 ppm. :b
