    Removing wine stains from carboy

I'm talking about the hydrogen peroxide... in other words, the "oxygen cleaning/bleaching" part of the chemical reaction. Eventually all that hydrogen peroxide gets used up. A lot of factors affect this: temperature (many people clean with warm/hot water solutions), pH and dissolved metals in...

    Removing wine stains from carboy

PBW, B-Brite, One-Step Cleaner are all basically OxyClean (sodium percarbonate) plus some additional cleaning agents. When you add sodium percarbonate to water, it breaks down into hydrogen peroxide and sodium carbonate (aka "soda ash", "washing soda"). The hydrogen peroxide quickly breaks down...

On the sidelines during Winemaking season is HELL.

I feel you. I recently lost my vineyard... the vines I had slaved over for years. Due to losing the house/property they were one. The sense of loss is crushing. I just recently rekindled some kit winemaking, but it's not the same... because kit winemaking was never meant to be anything more...

Use of Grape Packs in Making Red Wine Kits

I've been wondering if the "kit wine taste" comes from the sorbate packet, but this wouldn't be exclusive to the high-end kits with skins.

    My punny father

Me chatting online w/ my dad a few moments ago... Me: "I often see people say that winemaking is a "chemistry set for adults" Dad: "same with beer" "in fact, there are some 'beer making courses' that include chemistry as a topic" Me: "except with beer you're working with explosives." (side...

Other Estimated "Value" of homemade Vino

Nope. Bought it in 2020 as a special-order from my "local" store. $179. Has been stored in cool basements ever since. The other one I got at the same time was LE19 Pacific Quartet Red, still needs to be made.

Other Estimated "Value" of homemade Vino

The one I just bottled was RJS En Primeur Italian Rosso Grande Eccelente. The one I just started was Winexpert LE19 Cape Blend.

Other Estimated "Value" of homemade Vino

I'm still a newbie... after a long hiatus, I finally bottled my first (kit) wine. I did the math and it basically came to $10/bottle. But that includes $2.50 value of the bottle itself... if I can re-use the bottle, then the consumables (wine, ingredients, cork, capsule) costed me $7.50. What's...

    WineXpert First Kit ;( > Torrentes & Muscat <

Well, I know that... but that doesn't dictate whether the other companies have or haven't blended yeast nutrients in with the juice. I know they tweak acids.

WineXpert top off or not top off

I switched to doing a combo of flushing with argon then pulling a vacuum, and subsequently stopped worrying about headspace.

Malbec makes me think of my ex, so it's sort of blacklisted for me.

    WineXpert First Kit ;( > Torrentes & Muscat <

Is this known to be true? It's the first I've heard of it. Is this simply the norm for all the big kit makers?

WineXpert Hitting the target with alcohol

If there's still an active ferment going on, and we used the starting SG to do the calculations of how much sugar to add to get to a desired ABV, does it effectively matter when the sugar is added? Could one not still add the necessary sugar halfway through and still obtain the desired end...

Other 🎉😍 Finer wine kits anniversary sale! 35% off and lifetime discount program.

Really hope you offer this again... I missed it because I was still "out of commission" per se otherwise I would've been all over it. From what I've read re: FWK they will be all I purchase going forward.

Finer Wine Kit Finer Wine Kits

Did you miss the part where I said that I was a convert to FWK and that that's all I'd be buying in the future? ;) I did not say or mean to suggest that they were "second rate". My point was, if the supplier was a 3rd-party, for how long does FWK hold a monopoly on this new level of kit quality?

Finer Wine Kit Finer Wine Kits

Whew. Just made it through all 102 pages. I've been sort of "out of commission" for a long time and I'm trying to get back into wine-making as a form of therapy and self-care. I discovered Finer Wine Kits on Label Peelers while poking around there for another reason, decided to do some research...

WineXpert Handling the addition of Fermaid once fermentation already started?

Hey, all. Quick question: I have a kit I recently started (9/3). I prepped the yeast with Go-Ferm Protect before adding. It took about 2 days for the fermentation to really pick up (maybe old yeast) but it's going strong now. I also wanted to use Fermaid-O but I misundertood what "lag phase"...

    Need cheering up

Hello, friends. Haven't posted here in a long while due to some personal emergencies, life changes and basically my life being totally up-ended. Not in a good way. While my passion for wine hasn't been lost, many significant things have. Forced to sell my home, I lost the 40+ vine vineyard I...
