    What's for Dinner?

Oh man! I'm sorry. But, being out of debt means you have no bills to interfere with retiring this new one. Trying to point out the positive. Hang on, keep working, keep stashing cash, and hopefully it'll all come together some day. Wife and I were talking about the time our daughter broker her...

    Oxygen Uptake - Interesting article

It put me to sleep. I'm happy with my plastic bucket full of yeast gasping for oxygen. I did not know they were suffering and I doubt they are aware either. I just want to make wine, not write papers. Sounds ultra simplistic, I know. But, the reality is there is very little we in our micro...

    What's for Dinner?

Fish Veracruz....made the sauce last night, so much better the next day. Served over rice with corn on the cob just because it needs to be eaten, a cole side salad, and a Gewurztraminer or how ever you spell that white German vine.

    My Yeast is Expired? Surprise!

I rehydrate every package every time because Grandmother and the manufactures say to do so. Besides, I like to watch it wake up!

    Way off the wall...

I saw this and thought it kind of a cool idea for folks like me with not much storage space. paint your carboy and use it as decoration. The black background would protect the wine from light and you could show off your artistic talents. Alas, I have no artistic talents at all....I could do the...

    New Winemaker Equipment

Craigslist is your friend. People jump in and out of this hobby....like you did brewing. All my gear was bought for pennies on the dollar, not retail price. Just a thought.

WineXpert Eclipse Lodi Cab - calling all tweakers!

I seldom see free 375's that are not screw tops...but I snag every one I can get my hands on. Frankly, it's easier to just buy them new. So handy as testers, BYOB restaurants, I want red she wants white....I find us using them more and more...perfect for a couple of glasses.

    Skills acquisition?

I always wanted to be a short order cook. I admit it isn't much of an aspiration, but I like the near instant gratification of a job done well. My current job shows results months to years later. Fact is, I am seriously considering retiring for this much higher paying job just to try cooking...

    Other Tweeking Cheap Kits

I've done the Pino Blueberry, Chardonany (with too much grapefruit zest!), and done the Malbec at least 4 times as it has become our house wine. Just finished a WE Selection Malbec with skins and it is very good even very young.... I wonder if it's going to be 3 times better than the Fontana and...

    when good wines gone bad

I have made that very kit, very similar to how you did it. EXCEPT....I added a whole quart of simple syrup and way overshot my SG. I saw the PICTURE of the quart jar, should have read your instructions better...my bad. Even so, this is still one of our favorite wines! Wife actually like the ABV...

    Other Tweeking Cheap Kits

Sugar...when he says 1/2 of a grapefruit, he means ONE HALF OF A GRAPEFRUIT. Don't make the mistake of looking at that tiny pile of vest and that big old six gallon bucket and think this ain't near enough....IT IS ENOUGH! Zest is powerful stuff....a little bit goes a long way. Easy enough to...

    Other Tweeking Cheap Kits

I learned that with beer....you can add so many different flavors it just turns into a muddy tasting mess. Although I am drinking a Bock beer right now that was too much, too bad back in Oct. 2016.....now it's melded together and is pretty smooth and tasty too! Better to focus on a single...

    I’m officially a HAM

Had an Uncle who was a ham operator with friends all over the world. Later he became involved in computers and something called the internet....he was quiet the funny guy and was always sending out the craziest, funniest, jokes and stories you ever heard. He died with thousands of "following...

    Topping up help

I bought the Vaccuman's Head Space Eliminators....second best wine making purchase after the All In One vac pump and a floor corker. This bit of info may be of minor value to you at this point. Other options.... marbles....airbags...smaller carboys may be your best option right now

    Etched Wine Glasses

Couple of life times ago....two wives, two divorces, forget how many times I moved! I was a glazier, glass guy, back then...then draftsman, then estimator, then project manager...eleven years in glass. Started out with a Wyndham hotel project we drastically under bid the "art glass" portion...

    Etched Wine Glasses

I used to do this years ago in a different life! I quickly found sandblasting was healthier faster cheaper if you have the compressor. That hobby quickly morphed into a 3 employee business that quickly drained all the fun out of it. Door panels, shower doors, mirrors, sneeze guards....way too...

    Other Tweeking Cheap Kits

I have thought about using a supplier, with the initials L.P., they have a Winery Series kit that makes I believe 24 gallons. It also sounds like a Mist type kit, ripe for tweaking. But, I'm pretty sure I don't really want 24 gallons of the same base wine like a Blackberry Merlot. Think I like...

    Anyone Else Melting Out There?

Summer time in Texas, 101 yesterday with almost zero wind. Perfect day to work in a rifle and check some hand loads. Come home and enjoy the pool. You get used to it.

    Winexpert Island Mist Favorite?

I do the peach apricot and add three pounds of sugar and half the flavor pack in the primary...the other half at bottling.Sip as a wine or over ice 50/50 with Sprite for a sip all day wine cooler. Also makes a nice white sangria base. Recently did the coconut yazu which is real easy to like also!
