    First batch at skeeter...

Well gee. Being a totally clueless novice, I did not expect my stuff to be an inspiration for anyone. Thanks for that. I suppose the cloudiness doesn't matter in a practical sense, especially if we're just drinking it ourselves. Maybe it's just that a clear wine makes me feel good about the...

    First batch at skeeter...

Thank you. This batch was the first time I have used sparkoloid, and I have read great things about it, but it didn't seem to work well for me. It cleared somewhat but was still cloudy. When I did a subsequent racking I added bentonite and that cleared it up the rest of the way. Learning...

    First batch at skeeter...

I let it go completely dry then back sweetened with about 4.5 cups sugar to about 5.5 gallons. Next time I may cut the sugar back a bit. 14% is high for skeeter from what I have read, but my wife and I like a little kick and I figured what the heck. Worst thing that can happen is we have...

    First batch at skeeter...

Thanks. The labels were fun to make too. A little photoshop, keep it simple, a little personal symbolism, and voila. It's the perfect summer fun sipper.

You'll have to forgive the grammarish errors. I have been sampling a few in the process of bottling. :)

    First batch at skeeter...

I haven't had any "skeeter before, but I've tried hard lemonade from the local packy and mine is way better if I do say so myself. We'll have a few now but probably save the bulk for summer. Alot of fun making it and learned a few things in the process.

    Backsweetening / sorbate

I forgot to mention that I did rack and degas it before adding the sorbate. I guess it is possible that there is some residual c02.

    Backsweetening / sorbate

Hey guys. I have a batch of skeeter in the carboy. Last week the SG was about .992 so I added a little less than 2 teaspoons sorbate (BSG says .3 tsp per gallon, 6 gallon batch) to stabilize so I can backsweeten before bottling. A week later and it still seems to be fermenting as there are...

    Welch's sulfites question

I used the 1118 yeast, which came with the kit. I didn't have to do anything special and the airlock is bubbling away. Thanks for the help everyone.

    Welch's sulfites question

I (think) I have read that sulfites can suspend or stop fermentation. Is that true?

    Welch's sulfites question

It took a bit, but I was able to find the answer to this question in another post. The gist of it was that it should be fine. Small amounts of sulfites shouldn't bother wine yeast as they are fairly tolerant (in case anyone else is wondering...)

    Welch's sulfites question

Hey y'all. Newbie question. I mixed up a 6+ gallon batch today and added some sugar syrup and welch's white grape concentrate to up the sg, but, suffering from stupidity, I forgot to check the ingredients of the welch's until after I added it. It contains sulfites. I used 2 cans of the...

    New guy in CT

Thanks for the welcome. I currently live in Sterling, CT which is as far in eastern CT as one can get, about a mile from the RI line. I grew up in Enfield, and moved to eastern CT in the early 90's. Eastern CT is still pretty quiet compared to the other side... CT is a tough state to be in...

I just did that for the pic. Normally I keep it dark. Thanks though.

Hello everyone. I am pretty new to wine making, but I have been meandering through the forums here learning, so I need to extend my gratitude. Thank you for all of your unsolicited advice. It is greatly appreciated. I did my first kit over a year ago, and have done about 5 or 6 batches...
