    Dividing an Apple Wine

Hi All- Have a couple questions about some apple wine I just started. I am thinking about dividing my apple wine I just started to make wine and hard cider. I have 6 gallons going in the primary right now. Had some issues starting out. I started the must a little hot at an SG of 1.104...

    Wine Consumption

I'm not feeling so bad anymore! Actually, now I'm thinking I may need to catch up :h I'll usually have a couple beers while I feed the dogs and take care of everything out back. Then, after dinner (belly is too full for beer) a glass of wine or mixer but depending on how late we stay up...

    Wine Consumption

Hi All - With the winter doldrums on us (20 below again this morning), I've found that my consumption has gone up some. Being in road construction, this is kind of the dead time of year so I have a lot more idle time to deal with. Get home from work, get some chores done, dinner, and then its...

    Advice for Wine Making Room

A little bit more work got done this past weekend. I hope to be able to get to the floor next weekend. I got an apple wine going last week but I still have a lot of empty carboys. The 1 gal's and the 5gal on the left have a Green Tomato Chardonnay in them, oaked the 5 gal and not the 1 gal's...

    Advice for Wine Making Room

Slowly but surely, things are getting done. Here will be the bottle storage. Wanted to use this patio door after I ended up getting it for free but it has the one nonoperational side. I built the shelves at an angle so the bottles (hopefully) roll down. I figure it will hold 269 bottles. I...

whiskey drinker interested in maybe learning somethng new.

Welcome Whiskey! Interesting post, while I can't help you too much, there is a wealth of information on here. I just started a few months ago in much the same situation you are in and searched and learned as much as I could. Started with a kit to get the basics down myself, but it does not...

    Need Help with Maple Wine

Update on this wine, it's terrible! :s Popped the top on one bottle just to see how it was coming along after 4 months and it was still the same. High alcohol smell and flavor. I need to get some smaller bottles for when I try new things. I've got three bottles of it left and it'll be at...

    Advice for Vegas

Thanks for the replies everyone! We had a great time out there. Luckily we were upgraded to a Signature Balcony Suite up on the 37th floor and the room with the views was amazing. If anyone heads out there, The Signature at MGM was an awesome hotel. Everyone had a smile on their face the...

am i the only single winemaker

It was a 25 mile fencer encompassing 1/2 acre of pens. I ran two strands (one at 6" height and one at 12") of poly rope and it seems when it would touch grass, it would singe the grass off. Conditions must have been perfect to get that fire going, and then perfect to stop it before it took...

Sell to anyone but mostly to hunt clubs. This may be the last year we raise a couple thousand birds. Pens collapsed with snapped off posts in bad May snow. Spent all summer rebuilding only to have an end catch fire from the electric fence and then an ice storm in early December took the top...

    Advice for Vegas

Colicchios has a steakhouse right at the MGM which is connected to the Signature. That's what I was looking at just because it would be close by. We watch Ramsay's shows quite a bit, I may need to look into that and see why people are getting their $%^ chewed so often.

    Advice for Vegas

Heading out to Vegas to get away from the 30 below heat wave we are in, staying at the Signature at MGM. My wife turns 30 and told her we would go out on the town for one night of high-end life. Any advice as to what would be a good place to get some good food? I don't think her or I are...

    Advice for Wine Making Room

That shower has had many uses :h It is now supposed to be the place to give the dogs a bath, up on the platform with the shower wand. I think my wife may like that back sooner than later. It would be perfect to build some racks in there though.... hmmm...

    Advice for Wine Making Room

That may be a good idea. Reason I couldn't go with deeper counters is because I need the room to be able to open the doors to the closets. Building a larger table would definitely be nice and I could install casters on it to be able to roll it out of the way if I need to get a door open. Thanks

    Advice for Wine Making Room

I had thought about that John but I wanted to be able to close the area off. If we didn't have any kids around maybe I would have been more apt to go that way. Also, I thought it would be easier to maintain the environment/sanitation in a closed off area. Maybe not but that was my thinking...

    Advice for Wine Making Room

As you can see, I cut out the drywall where the wine racks will butt up to the wall, hoping that it will bring the temp down inside there. I will be installing a 6' patio door (that I got for $25) and the walls will be insulated. I might need to rig something up like I have in my incubators to...

    Advice for Wine Making Room

Had a week or so over break and got started on it. Gutted out the whole area and started painting. I decided to replace all of the flooring and then decided to match the flooring into the master bedroom as well, so the project grew. If I had stayed with the original plan, the project would...

    Advice for Wine Making Room

These pics show the existing bar area/living room. The master bedroom is off the end and our daughter's bedroom is off the side. You can see that the bigger I made this room, the more it would cut into the living room and going too far would not look right as you come down the stairs.
