I have no idea what I'm doing!

No watering needed. It's not potted. By the size of the vine those roots go for a long deep way.

Grow tubes, Milk Cartons or Nothing?

When i plant new vines I use grow tubes. The ones I have are probably 15 years old and the color of the tubes is tan. The Main reason i use the tubes is to stop the deer and other critters from eating the new tender vines.

    Terror on the wing

Yes, kill the hornets. There are poisons that you can use that they take back to the nest. Onslaught Insecticide at least I think it works, sure seems like the population of wasps around my place droped after I started using it. And no it doesn't kill the honey bees if you use it in traps. I...

    How many vines to purchase?

Is a hard question to answer. Different soils, vigor, training styles. My Petite Pearl are not vigorous and have small tightly packed grapes and I average 1/2 gal of finished wine per vine.

    SO2 in Wine

I understand that the free so2 will dissipate when wine is racked or during long term bulk aging. If wine is bottled and corked with high levels of so2 will the so2 dissipate with time as in over a year.

    Total SO2 and sensory limit

There are some people that can taste SO2 in wine. My palette isn't that refined but have had people ask what is that chemical taste.

    Best Vines for Omaha?

Check out Petite Pearl. Kind of a slow grower and small grapes but within 5 years you will get at least 1/2 gal per vine. Acid is really good. Last fall my TA was .77. Nice hardy red.

    Pssssst. Hey bud, commmmere...

    First cold stabilization WOW diamonds!

I belive a good rule of thumb, wine from grapes west of the Rocky Mountains (normally) do not benefit from CS but grapes grown in the rest of the US sure do. Again this is just a rule of thumb. For those that don't know or understand us folks from the East struggle mightily with high acid...

    High TA, low pH

What I would do is #1. Put the carboys in my shed for a month or 2 and cold stablize the wine. (I live in the north where we have a winter) that will drop your acid level. # 2. Check it again next spring after it is at least 6 months old. If it tastes good to YOU bottle it. If it is still to...
