    RJ Spagnols Sauvignon Blanc

Show's different tastes. The eclipse old vine zinfandel is one of my wife's favorites and has been a hit with all our wine drinking friends. As Doug's said, winexpert is changing their kits and part of the change is less juice. Haven't tried any of them.

Master Vintner Kit - Open open or closed fermentation

Some of the kits I have done have either wood chips or wood sawdust and I like to rack off of that as soon as gravity tells me to. The only time I don't close up my wine fermenting bucket is if there are grape skins that need to be pushed down everyday otherwise I push the lid on tight.. Blow...

    Wine kit fermenting confusion

I have made a lot of wine kits and the real key to being ready to bottle a kit is clarity. If you bottle a cloudy wine, you will most likely always have a cloudy wine. It will not usually clear in the bottle.I'm not familiar with the brand kit you are using, but with the brands I've been making...

    Winexpert Eclipse Three Moons

Thanks for posting that there are two options for the Eclipse kits on labelpeelers. I thought the free shipping was the only choice and the price after adding to the cart stayed at the $174.95 price at checkout so I bought the kit from another seller. I just checked adding the kit on...

    Here comes the first batch.

I've got to hand it to you. Making one of the higher price kits for your first try is pretty brave. I second what others have said when you're making an expensive kit as your first try, I would follow the directions exactly and leave the tweaking until you have more experience. Kits are pretty...

WinExpert bentonite dissolving hints / tricks

That explains the trub almost adhering to the bottom of the carboy. I thought the original question had to do with getting the initial bentonite addition into solution before proceeding further.

WinExpert bentonite dissolving hints / tricks

I could be wrong but I think that when the additional liquids are added it does dissolve.

    Using big mouth carboys

I wanted to see what the groups thoughts were on using the big mouth carboy for secondary and aging. I know they will work fine for the primary fermentation, but is there too much head space for further use? Also, do you use carboys with taps or use a siphon?

WinExpert bentonite dissolving hints / tricks

I want to second what VCN posted. I also add more water than the instructions call for (2 cups in a 7 gallon ferment bucket??!!! Give me a break) I add the bentonite and swirl the bucket. I don't stir because the bentonite forms a sticky mess that will cling to the spoon like glue. This...

    Winexpert LE18 thoughts?

Thought I would throw in my experience with LE kits. I did the Barbaresco kit. After I emptied the bag into my ferment bucket and then add the grape skins, there was a water addition of a little over a gallon to bring it to the 6 gallon mark. Pretty much the same amount of water as an 18 liter...

    Unimpressed with top line kits?

My wife's favorite kit to date is the Eclipse old vine zinfandel and I have made it 4 or 5 times. Before wine kits, she was a $10 to $12 a bottle wine drinker and she feels the kit is far better than the wine we were drinking. What really opened our eyes was when after drinking nothing but the...

    Unimpressed with top line kits?

A friend of mine won a blind auction wine tasting and tapas at a local fairly exclusive wine business. We brought two bottles of our Eciplse old vine zinfandel and after the tasting we returned to the hosts home and opened the two bottles we had brought. Every person said that our wine was...

WineXpert Winexpert Eclipse Lodi Old Vine Zinfandel

I'm the wine maker and the wife is the wine drinker. I have made at least 30 kits To date this is far and away her favorite. Not only does she love it, everyone we have shared with loves it including one person who is not normally a red wine fan. As far as aging, we don't have a place for long...

    Corks Hard To Remove

The online site I buy my corks from was out of stock on the natural corks so I bought 100 of the synthetic corks. I thought they sell these for wine so they must be okay right? Wrong. These corks were virtually impossible to pull from the bottle. Probably not what you are using, but thought I...

Can anyone recommend a good Cab and/or Petit Syrah?

I have not made their cab or petit syrah but I have made RJS's En Primeur super Tuscan and found it to be a very good wine. Might be a brand and series worth considering.

17 years of brewing new to wine

The blow off tube works very well for wine. I have used it on my fermentation bucket and a carboy after the first transfer. Not sure if it would handle a carboy being used for fermentation.

RJ Spagnols The chase begins.... 2019 RQ

Thanks. I will keep an eye open. I use a bottling bucket and siphon and on transfer I tend to leave some in the carboy to make sure I don't stir up some sediment.
