Entries for WineMaker Magazine's 2009 Competition

I left off Jw_minnesota who got one medal. It was midnight when I made the post so I apologize for the breavity. I will try to find some time to post the medals. The info should be on the WineMakerMag web site by tomorrow and the awards are being mailed tomorrow.

    Last days most likely

Wade, You know how sorry I am to see you go. You have been a great addition to my forum and will be sorely missed. It is nice to know you have your priorities in order, though. Getting the wife through nursing school should provide you with a much more stable future. I wish you and...

    WINEMAKERS COMPETITION '09

My guess is 150-200 based on what we sent from here and the feedback I have received.

    UPS vs. FedEx

It depends on your location. FedEx does a great job in larger towns and cities, but some of the local drivers aren't very good at doing their job, especially in rural areas. My failure rate with FedEx is about 1 in 1,000 boxes which I will gladly live with anyday of the week. My business...

    WINEMAKERS COMPETITION '09

I talked with Kiev at WineMaker Mag and the final number was only 4,500.

    I bought some corks....

Look for other ways to save money in wine making other than corks. If you consider your cost of the wine itself is $2-10 per bottle, saving even 5 cents per bottle is way too much risk. If you only throw out one batch, you may never recoup your savings. As an aside, one of my competitors...

    Mosti Mondiale La Bodega Port

Nino told me to replace the kit. No way to salvage. Now if customs will just release my shipment, I will be able to replace it.

    Happy Birthday George

I got a new outdoor charcoal grill. I don't do the gas type. It may have something to do with the time I almost fried my face, which was actually better than a friend of mine that burned a 6 foot diameter hole in his wood deck. I still laugh about both, though! As such, charcoal for me.

Entries for WineMaker Magazine's 2009 Competition

I will be. Based on what I know and the historical averages of winning wines, my guess is that I will need 3-400 entries. My guess is that I will have around 200 wine submitted by my customers. Considering last year I had 19, I think that is a huge statement by my customers. On the flip...

Entries for WineMaker Magazine's 2009 Competition

First of all, only 15 were mine. The rest were customer submissions. Second, of course we used lots of peanuts and bubble wrap and plastic bags.

Of the 7 boxes that we sent with 80 bottles of wine, we only lost 1 bottle and, believe it or not, it was one of my entries!

juice came, leaking - what to do

We have made over 50 leaking kits. If there is not visible sign of mold and if it tastes good, it should be fine. You will know if you see bacteria on top or if it smells or taste off. In our experience, FedEx Ground has been exceptional. We have a problem with about 1 in a 1,000 boxes...
