Used bottles like everyone said are ok, but look out for those new thinner bottles that may not be strong enough for a hand corker. Oh like they said stay away from screw tops. Sometimes local wineries will sell used bottle for around six bucks.

Making a yeast starter with DME helps get the process started quicker. I did this with my last kit and I had airlock activity in 4 hrs. I made the starter a day in advance.
I also have that type of bung and place it in the the carboy first then the airlock. I have not had any problems with slippage. It sound lik your wine will turn out, let us know it matures.
