add collection container to stainless steel conical fermenter

Ok I tried and it does not work. Water does not even fill the container, probably because the pressure is too much and air cannot escape from the container. I can loose the union a little and it fills but then sediment will not sink into the container. I really wonder why such products even...

add collection container to stainless steel conical fermenter

Thanks. This comes with 2" connection, but many SS fermenters come with 1/2" drain ball valve. And the container is over 1 liter so it is like wasting some beer/wine? I think a 500ml is enough? It seems like not many folks are using the drain valve to discharge sediment, otherwise, there should...

add collection container to stainless steel conical fermenter

Thanks for the comment. I am using the fastferment and sediment seems to be sinking to the bottom ball after about 10 days:

add collection container to stainless steel conical fermenter

I am thinking about switching from plastic to SS, but noticed almost all SS conical does not come with a collection container, and it is rather clumsy to discharge the sediment, as posted on youtube: This one is completely blocked: This one is not jammed but cannot control the flow: So why...

    Transfer pump

I noticed there are lots of USB powered pumps from China, eg(they are in Chinese but the video shows how it works) USB酒缸抽酒器電動抽酒器5v抽酒神器自吸打酒器抽水泵家用灌裝機 臺式桶裝水抽水器電動礦泉水上水器家用飲水機大桶桌面自動吸水器 They are really cheap and seems to be convenient, I wonder if they will work for wine transferring and/bottling?

fastferment union valve replacement with stainless steel

I have been using it and it is really great, much easier to open/close the valve, and no concern about broken handle. The nylon nipple is a little discolored to yellowish but I guess it should be no problem, since they should be food grade material: The Nipple Pipe Fitting by Green Leaf® is...

fastferment union valve replacement with stainless steel

Thanks. I am in Toronto area and it is really not available, I have found those socket/FPT or socket/MPT ones, but not MPT/FPT ones.

fastferment union valve replacement with stainless steel

It leaks from the place where the nipple inserts into the valve, because the thread depth on the valve is not deep enough, I guess I will have to use more Teflon.

fastferment union valve replacement with stainless steel

Ok some update on this, it is really difficult or almost impossible to find what I wanted, so I came up with this for now: New valve + coupler + nipple (if they have a female to male connector, I can use only one instead of two parts): Old handle-broken union valve: I will use lots of...

fastferment union valve replacement with stainless steel

My concern with the plastic ones is that they do not last, but maybe the ferment conical body will not last for very long either. I found this in local hardware store: It is 1" FPT so it should fit, but we cannot open it to clean the valve, as demonstrated in this video. Also even if I got...

fastferment union valve replacement with stainless steel

I just thought about another concern, are the threads strong enough to hold the collection ball(the weight and pressure from top)? It should not fall off? I think the union would make the connection stronger than directly connecting the ball to the valve, will it? Thanks.

fastferment union valve replacement with stainless steel

Thanks for the good info! I actually already purchased the ball valve and tried it connecting directly with the conical body and the collection ball, it leaks(probably not enough Teflon tape) and I think it is not a good design to connect the ball directly to the valve, hence the union(no Teflon...

fastferment union valve replacement with stainless steel

Hi the red handle on the union valve on my 7.9G fastferment broken, so I have been using a wrench to open/close it, and I have been trying to find a stainless steel replacement but without success. I contacted fastferment and they said they would reimburse me if I buy one from Amazon but they...

Other do I still need to degas if the wine is already very clear?

Thanks. It is separate packs for those, ie, Potassium Metabisulphite(K-meta, 4g powder), Kieselsol(12.5ml liquid), Potassium Sorbate(5.5g powder), and Chitosan75ml liquid). I have purchased a bag of K-meta while trying some custom recipe(sweet potato wine) so I will follow your suggestions to...

Other do I still need to degas if the wine is already very clear?

I just checked the K-meta from the kit and it is 4g powder, it should be more than 1/4 tsp? I guess it is ok to add them all? Thanks.

Other do I still need to degas if the wine is already very clear?

Thanks again! I will rack it again and let it bulk age for several months and then bottle. Before this batch I would just bottle when it is clear (carefully not to stir the sediment) to save the hassle of racking and topping up but it seems to be the right way to rack again.

Other do I still need to degas if the wine is already very clear?

Wow, thanks for all the response and comments, I really appreciate it. I will try to taste and see if I need to degas, but not sure if I will be able to tase it. :p I prefer dry wine so will not backswwaten. But as suggested I will rack again since there is sediment at the bottom, and add K-meta.

Other do I still need to degas if the wine is already very clear?

Hi I am new to wine making and this forum has been helpful. I made a batch(23L) from a Chardonnay wine kit, but I did not fully follow the instructions, and did not add all those stabilizing and clearing stuff, ie, no Potassium Metabisulphite, no Kieselsol, no Potassium Sorbate, and no...
